Do you need a 3G-enabled iPad when deciding to buy iPad? The base iPads are Wi-Fi only. It cost an extra $130 upfront to purchase 3G and that’s even before you’ve purchased a data plan for the iPad. The iPad 3G stands for  third generation wireless technology. 3G is an enchantments that includes wireless technologies, like high-speed transmission, advanced multimedia access and global roaming. 3G is mainly used with mobile phones and handsets as a means to connect the phone to the Internet or other networks. 3G enhancements to the iPad include higher data speed, enhanced audio and video streaming, video-conferencing and Web and WAP browsing at higher speeds.
