For years, my wife and I skirted the pet issue with our children for various reasons such as: you’re too young to have a pet; or we’re not getting a pet until you demonstrate that you can take care of one. Those were the typical lines we fed our two boys for the first 6 and 8 years of their lives. But then, the neighbor kids down the street brought down one of their rabbits and it was all over. That cute, furry, ball of pure white hair was all it took to make a trip to the pet shop to shop for rabbit hutches.
