The Truth About Islamic Clothing
What is Islamic clothing and why is it becoming so popular in the West? Traditionally Islamic clothing would be simple garments which are loose-fitting and cover one’s modesty and adhere to the guidelines taught by Islam, the world’s largest growing religion.
In modern times, clothing such as abayas and jilbabs are typically worn by women to fulfil the above criteria in the Middle East especially, and these are becoming increasingly popular in the West too. Islamic clothing would also not be complete without the hijab, the covering of the hair, as this is considered a sign of women’s beauty.
One may wonder why such criteria even exist, and some have gone as far as to claim that Islam oppresses women. The reality, however, is that by adopting Islamic clothing one discovers how Islam actually liberates women by giving them the opportunity to preserve their dignity and honour.
