Two Layers… or Three? What’s Best in Snowboard Pants?

Good snowboard pants have at least two layers. The layer that comes closest to you should wick moisture away from your skin, keeping you drier, which will help you regulate your temperature and comfort level. The outer layer should be durable and lightweight, possibly waterproof. Some snowboard pants have a third layer, usually for insulation. But if the day isn’t particularly cold, this third layer might actually make you overheat. To decide which snowboard pants you need, look to the weather. Unless you’re snowboarding in an area of extreme cold, two layers may be enough. You can always add a thermal underlayer on extra cold days.
